Do I need a permit before I can take lessons?

Yes. Students will need to have a permit or a driver's license before scheduling lessons. 

What type of cars does ABC use?

All lessons are given in the ABC training vehicle. Our cars are all late model compact cars outfitted with a dual braking system. ABC vehicles are regularly inspected by the Kentucky State Police.

Are ABC Instructors certified?

Yes. All of our instructors are licensed and certified by the Kentucky State Police. All of our instructors have completed a thorough background check conducted by the Kentucky State Police.

Are ABC instructors trained to work with nervous drivers?

Yes. Our instructors are committed to teaching our students in the most positive and supportive manner possible. We treat each student with respect, recognizing that each student has a unique learning style and background.

Does the student need insurance to take driving lessons?

No. ABC's insurance covers the student driver while taking lessons.

Can I take lessons if I don't live in Jefferson, Oldham, or Bullitt County?

Yes. We can either meet you at our ABC office or at a public location, such as a shopping center, somewhere within our service area.

What do I need to bring with me to my lesson?

Students must have their learner's permit (or driver's license) and must wear eyeglasses or contact lenses if corrective lenses are required on their permit or license. Students are also discouraged from wearing flip flops, high heels, or heavy boots. 

What do I need to bring with me on the day of my Road Test?

Students need to bring their learner's permit (or driver's license from another state or country) and eyeglasses or contact lenses if required to have corrective lenses. Students who will be receiving their Graduated License will need to bring their driver's log or note from their parent or guardian stating that student has completed 50 hours daytime and 10 hours nighttime driving. Driving logs can be downloaded from the resources section of the ABC website.

Are all ABC lessons one-on-one individual instruction?

Yes. We do not offer any group lessons. However, in some cases, we will allow siblings to share lessons.

Are driving lessons are given during inclement weather?

Lessons are conducted rain or shine. However, we will reschedule your lesson if the instructor deems the roads to be unsafe due to conditions such as snow, ice, or extreme thunderstorms.

Can I receive a discount on my insurance if I take lessons with ABC?

Yes, in most cases. We issue students a Certificate of Completion on their last lesson. Most insurance companies offer discounts for students who have completed a driver's training with ABC Driving School. Check with your insurance company to see if they have any specific requirements.

Does ABC provide free student pick up and drop off?

Yes, in most cases, we pick students up at home, school, or work. However, in some cases, we may have students meet us at the ABC office, the DMV, or at an alternate public location.

How long must I have my permit before I can take my road test?

You must have had your permit for at least 6 months if you are under 21, and for 1 month if you obtained your permit when you were 21 or older. You can find a link to check your eligibility date on our resources page.

What happens if I have to cancel or reschedule my lesson?

Please call the ABC office as soon as you know that you need to reschedule or cancel a lesson. We require a minimum of 24-hour notice for cancellations. A $60 a cancellation fee may be charged for last-minute cancellations
